Three principles to a successful Website.

Having worked on creating successful websites for a multitude of clients since the beginning of the world wide web, we have learned many valuable lessons and developed many successful strategies.  At the very top of the list are three, extremely simple and vitally important principles.

Every time we tell a new client these 3 principles, they say... “of course, that’s so simple”... and yet, invariably when we take a look at their website, we find 1, 2 or all three points missing to some degree or another from their online presentation of their business.

So here are our 3 Website Maxims:

1.  WHERE AM I? -
         and the three primary ingredients:

        a.  Clear name of site
        b.  Phone Number
        c.  Location (geographic area)

It is amazing how many websites miss this point.

When a user comes to your website, he doesn’t want to have to figure out what your company name is by having to squint to figure out some modern art logo, or wait through some fancy flash movie, they simply want to know they have reached your site, they  just want to KNOW where they are.

If you have a surveyed slogan, fine, state that clearly, but also you must, must, must clearly state your business name to brand your business, AND very important, make it EASY for users to get in touch with you, so clearly state your phone number and include the ability to contact via email or online contact form.

Finally, let the user know where YOU are, meaning your geographic location. We favor having a thumbnail map of your location with a link to directions to make it easy for the user to locate you, your office allowing them to easily get to your office.

2.  WHAT CAN I DO HERE?

    a.  A Clear concise, compelling message, that makes the user WANT to know more.

This is your primary message.  What you have to offer.

If you’re selling a physical product, have a great picture of it, with a brief description, if you are a service company, clearly state what you do, and how it has helped others.

Our research has shown that you have from 3 - 5 seconds to capture AND communicate your message to the user, so make sure you are concise, compelling, and easy to understand! Of course you will want to have more in depth explanations of what you sell or what you do, but that comes in the “read more...” section, the first thing is to capture the user, and get them to want to know more.

Finally, it is always easier to have someone brag about you than to brag about yourself, so when possible, feature brief testimonials that tell the world how great you are.

3.  WHAT BENEFIT IS IT TO ME?

        a.  A Special Offer

            i..   Free E-Newsletter
            ii.   Free E-Book
iii.  Free report, “10 Steps to a better...." etc...."
            iv.  New Patient Offer
            v.   Web Only Discount Coupon etc..

Marketing strategies have featured “promotions” “give-aways” and “discounts” since the dawn of advertising, and the internet has taken that to even greater heights. Instant access to information, research, and pricing creates an informed buyer to the degree that if you don’t have something that at least “apparently” gives them something free, the savvy potential buyer will pass you up for some other website who does

offer a benefit to them.

Not only does this step engage the user and get them to “click-through” to partake in what you have to offer, it has the additional advantage of capturing names and email addresses so you can market to these users in the future. i.e. offer a free newsletter, or “10 tips to a better....” all the user needs to do is fill out a very brief form, click submit, and now you have one more name on your email marketing list.

In conclusion, we should state that although these three principles are primary and vital to be included in your online strategy, there are many, many other tools that we have learned and developed in our over 15 year experience in developing websites for clients large and small, from every area of business.

So remember our WEBSITE MAXIMS:

           WHERE AM I?
            WHAT CAN I DO HERE?
WHAT BENEFIT IS IT TO ME?

Remember them, use them, and have a more successful web presence!
